Project Real: It’s All in the Jeans.

Soon the leaves will fall, the air will chill and my thighs will do less sweaty chafing, and more painless, dry rubbing.

Fall.

It’s a good thing.

If you were to ask me my ideal season, it would always be the one I can spend comfortably in jeans and a a hoodie or cardigan.

I love it so much, it almost takes the sting out of jean shopping.

Almost.

A few weeks ago we did an amazing article on jeans for your body shape, but we wanted to take it one step further.

While seeing jeans on a model is all well and good, seeing them on a real woman, one who looks just like you, makes all the difference between feeling sexy and confident as hell…and having a mental breakdown in the Lane Bryant dressing room.

Today we want to share the denim that leaves us feeling strong and gorgeous, because none of us look like mannequins, but all of us should feel amazing in our clothes, no matter what size we are!

Circle Scarf 1Brittany:  Almost of the the jeans I have have stretch in them.  These do not. And I LOVE them. Confession: I can wear them a week straight and they just keep getting better!  Jeans with stretch get saggy after a day or so, and finding a pair of jeans with 0% spandex is tough, but soooo worth it. These are last season’s Distressed Diva Cut Flare Jeans from Old Navy.

Similar Finds: Women’s Flare Diva Jeans, Old Navy $39.94 (size 0-20)

Hipster Flare Jean, American Eagle $29.99 (size 00-18)

Women’s Plus Skinny Mini Flare Jeans, Old Navy $39.94 (size 16-30)

KristenKristen: I love the Levi’s Curve collection because they have four different fit options depending on your body type, so that ANYONE can wear a “skinny jean”.  These are comfortable and flattering, and I wear them several times a week.  I love them so much that I bought them in three different washes.  Levi’s Demi Curve Skinny $68 (size 24w-34w)

Similar:  Levi’s Womens Plus Slight Curve Skinny Jean $60 (size 16-24)

Skinny Sophia Jegging, Torrid $58.50 (size 12-28)

My favorite jeansHeather: Liking these jeans is as simple as enjoying how great they make my ass look. The end. Bonus points for not being ridiculously low cut thus preventing me from having to hike them up every time I sit down. Diva Cut Boot Cut Jeans, Old Navy $19.50 (size 0-20)

Similar: Women’s Plus Boot Cut Jeans, Old Navy $30 (size 16-30)

Jeans!Katie:T hese are my current very favorite jeans because they’re the perfect length, the waist doesn’t hug my hips too much and the denim is soft and breathes well. I have these lovelies in a dark wash too! I can’t help myself.

P.S. Yes, my shirt is a totally obscure Glee quote. Don’t judge me. Gap Curvy Jeans: ankle length, Gap $59.95 (size 00-20)

Similar: Boot Leg Slim Isabella Stretch Jean, Torrid $54.50 (size 12-28)

my favorite maternity jeansEmily: I wear this pair of jeans virtually every time I leave the house.  The best part about these jeans, other than the fact that I found them at a thrift shop for $40 (retail $185) is that they stay up really well, and fit me perfectly. Boot Cut Maternity Jeans, Citizens of Humanity $185 (size 25w-30w)

Similar: 1969 Full Panel Sexy Boot Jeans, Gap $79.95 (size 0-18)

Plus Size Secret Fit Belly Straight Leg Jeans, Motherhood Maternity $49.98 (size1x-3x)

tenaTena: These are Mossimo jeans from Target that I bought off the sale rack for next to nothing about 5 years ago (the holes are bona fide, worn in holes, not bought like that.) I love how I can wear them with a pair of heels and all 5ft 4 inches of me feels long and lean.

Similar: Petite Women’s Flare Jean, Old Navy $19.50 (size 0-20)

77 High Rise Flare Jean, American Eagle $29.99 (size 00-18)

DSCN0822Daisy: I love that they have stretch in them, that they last for forever and come in a lot of different washes. A Pocket Boot Cut Jeans, Sevens $198 (size 23w-33w)

Similar:  Mossimo Supply Boot Cut Jeans, Target $15 (size 1-17)

Lightly Flared Jean with Right Fit Technology, Lane Bryant $59.95 (size 14-28)

-183Allison:  I love these jeans because they fit perfectly and are so comfortable. I can wear them during the day with flip-flops, but they’re dark enough to dress up with a cute shirt and shoes for a night out. I wore them while I was pregnant until they wouldn’t zip up anymore, and are the first ones I fit back into after I had the baby. Still my favs! Also? Affordable!  Long & Lean Jeans, Gap $59.95 (size 00-20)

Holly—Favorite JeansHolly: I love the way my ass looks in these jeans and the fact that I can buy a pair without trying them on and I know they will fit well! 515 Boot Cut Jeans, Levi’s $40 (size 4-16)

Similar: Bold Curve Boot Cut Jeans Plus, Levi’s $55 (size 16-24)

Shorty had them Apple Bottom jeans...Jenny Grace:  These jeans are ridiculous, in every possible way, but they are also ridiculously flattering, so I embrace them, in all their ghetto glory.  These are my Going Out jeans (as opposed to my daywear jeans).  Apple Bottoms, as everyone should have pants by Nelly.

Similar: Rhinestone Apple Pocket Jean, Apple Bottoms $54.50 (size up to 14)

Rhinestone Apple Pocket Jean Plus, Apple Bottoms $79 (size 14-22)

photo

Ali: My favorite right now are the Gap legging jean.  They are super flattering and ridiculously comfortable. The material is softer than a heavy denim but nowhere near legging material. They are great with boots or heels or flats. You can dress them up or dress them down for hoodie and flip-flop kind of days. I seriously could live in these jeans…which is why I own three pairs of them.  1969 Legging Jeans, Gap $69.95 (size 00-20)

Similar: Double Pocket Skinny Jean, Forever 21 $26.80 (size 12-20)

Meredith's CalvinsMeredith: I’ve lost 47 pounds over the past year.  That’s TWO jeans sizes!  These jeans are Calvin Klein. These jeans stretch, are boot-cut, and they sit above my waist (to cover up all the hangy skin that three children bring).  I wanted to give you a butt shot, because after all, if you don’t think your butt looks good, you won’t show it off.  I think my butt is looking better and better everyday.  I wanted to show it off.  I think my butt looks better without pockets.  These jeans have no butt pockets.

Similar: 1969 Lightweight Wide Leg Trouser Jean, Gap $69.95 (size 00-20)

Women’s Plus Trouser Jean, Old Navy $32.50 (size 16-30)

JenJen: I love that these jeans make me feel comfortable AND stylish. I was always afraid of skinny jeans because, well, my legs are not that skinny but these jeans fit me just right.  Always Skinny, Gap $69.95 (size 00-20)

Similar: Women’s Plus Dark Wash Skinny Jean, Old Navy $19 (size16-30)

Mossimo Denim Skinny,Target $18 (size 1-17)

Angie JeansAngie: Having a pair of jeans that A) don’t have to be pulled up every time I sit down, stand up, walk three paces, B) don’t cost $200, and C) gives my backside an actual shape other than “wide” are requirements to be deemed my personal “favorite pair.”  These dark wash jeans are just that for me. I think I’m looking hotter than not in these shape-enhancing jeans!  The Dreamer Boot Cut Jeans, Old Navy $34.50 (size 0-20)

Similar: Women’s Plus Dark Wash Boot Cut Jean, Old Navy $36.94 (size 16-30)

I am super picky about jeans and won’t pay more than $20 for them…not an easy find. Most of my favorites have been hand me downs. My sister gave me a pair that her ex boyfriend gave her…Old Navy bootcut with no stretch. Sadly they have holes in the inseams and the knee so I’m gonna have to retire them. Another pair are Mudd stretch that she gave me. They make my butt amazing, but I’ve ripped the inseam of them too.

My new favorites are Old Navy Diva cut skinny jeans. I get so many compliments on them and they feel great. I bought them with the money my ex gave me for Christmas…What better way to get over heartbreak than to buy jeans that make my ass look SPECTACULAR?

I’m with you on the won’t pay more than $20 as well. That’s always been my jeans rule. I can’t bring myself to buy them for more because my size is always so up and down.

I am a denim lover, I have about 20 pairs of jeans and love them all for different reasons.
Skinny legs, boyfriend style, wide leg, straight leg, bootcut, flair… I love jeans!

I have to agree with Brittany that ones without stretch are better, less saggyness is always a win!

I’m obsessed with jeans, and have about 20 pairs I wear actively (with another 20 in various sizes that don’t fit me right now. Sigh). I also love The Gap’s Long & Lean jeans. They’re cut high enough they cover my saggy mom-stomach. I’m also love the Lane Bryant “slightly” flared jeans (which are actually very, very flared), Target’s Merona no-gap comfort wasit jeans and Old Navy’s The Rock Star jeggings.

I just got a pair of jeans from American Eagle. I never in a million years thought I would be able to find one that fits me there, but I tried on a skinny jean and WHAM I was in love. High enough rise to cover my c-section pooch, and very very skinny through leg (which I love) AND they come in long and extra long – ideal for those of us 5’10 and over. I WILL be buying more!

The pockets must no ride high on my ass. Also, I like pockets in front that can actually fit my hands. I have one pair from GAP that make me happy, but are ankle length so I can’t wear them during the loooooong Adirondack winters.

I like boot cut jeans that fit snug and have the perfect amount of stretch. They can’t be sagging half way through the day. I prefer a darker wash, and they can’t be low rise; I don’t want to be flashing my underwear every time I bend over!

I love Gap Long & Lean. And I also have a pair of Ann Taylor Loft skinny jeans (don’t know the name of them) that I LOVE. I need it to be mid-rise to cover that “thing you get after having kids” and not show my ass when I bend over!

My favorite type of jean isn’t a certain brand. It’s any jean that I can find that doesn’t leave that awful gap between my booty and my waist. If it doesn’t cost more than $30 I’m sold!

I need a pair of jeans that hug my ass, but don’t slip down when I sit. I love me some flare (the kind that covers my shoes, not the kind that you pin to suspenders).

UGH, I hate jeans, they never fit right then when you find a good pair, they switch the styles. I will have to check some of these out! I’ve been mostly wearing yoga pants since I had my daughter. How long can I use “I just had a baby” as a physique excuse? 10 years?

I LOVE to wear jeans. Work or play if I’m out of the house, chances are I’m wearing jeans. Sadly, the only pair I have left that I don’t use for work (I’m a Tastefully Simple consultant) have holes in the ass end by the pockets (from all those pull ups by the belt loops). The ones I do wear for work are too loose in the waist so I have to wear a belt and then it’s all bunchy and uncomfortable in there and I have to wear a long top to cover it. Its been years since I purchased a pair of jeans for myself. The last time I did so, I practically had a breakdown in the Old Navy dressing room, and the girl working there thought I was a complete nut. It’s either they fit great on my hips but then are too big in the waist, or they’re too snug in the thighs and I’m sending smoke signals from between them. I HATE JEAN SHOPPING! But once I find a pair I love, I wear them to DEATH. Oh and pockets… there must be pockets…

Finding the perfect pair of jeans is tough. My list of must have features include: pockets on the bum, no stretch denim(no saggin booty allowed), mid rise (no muffin top here), and a darker wash. My favorite pair currently is my $1.98 pair of Mossimo skinny jeans from Target. Yes, they must also be very reasonably priced.

I love jeans with some give in them. I have a small waist but a thick bottom. It has become nearly impossible for me to find jeans that I can get over my thighs but isn’t gigantic in the waist. I have had some luck with levis in the junior dept. Can anyone tell me why womens jeans are so saggy in the coochie? I’m 27 and I have to buy my pants in the junior section because apparently when you become a woman your lady bits fall past your knees! Or the booty sags.

I love thin jeans, the kind with wide legs that look good dressed up with heels. And snug-in-the-booty, boot cut jeans with not too big a flare.

I am short, 5’4″ and have crazy big hips and a smallish waist. I need jeans that fit over my hips and fit around the waist, they are not easy to find. I love my Silvers and Hydraulic jeans. I usually wear a flare or boot cut. Silvers are amazing but there are only a couple styles that fit right in my size and they are hard to find.
My Hydraulics I wear all the time. They are super comfortable and sit just right. Mine are a little too big at the moment so I am going to have to buy another pair soon.

Yes! Same body type and same brands! I have a tiny waist with a ghetto booty and I am a weightlifter, so I have big thighs too. Silvers fit the best for a long time and then they stopped cutting them right, but they have a new style called Suki that are perfect!! Cut high enough that my butt crack isn’t showing when I sit down, enough room in the butt and thighs, but the waistband cut smaller so they don’t gap out in the back! I have not seen Hydraulics in forever, but several years ago my favorite jeans were Hydraulics. I wore them until it would not be legal for me to wear them outside the house!

Okay, My jeans. First of all, low rise is a must for me. My legs are extremely long and completely disproportionate to my stumpy torso. A lower rise in my jeans makes me look like I have a longer torso. Also, I like a little stretch in my jeans. My 1969 Gap skinny jeans are my go to sexy jeans. I have a really flat butt & these jeans at least show that I have a butt! For just hanging around the house, I like my Calvin Klein jeans I got off the discount rack for $7 : ) Super comfortable.

I think Brittany was the one who mentioned finding jeans without spandex and that makes sense since I bought shorts earlier this year and they fit just fine after being washed but if I tried to wear them a second day? no way.

Jeans are such a struggle. I have three challenges:

      1. At a size 16, I need a manufacturer that makes plus-sized jeans.
      2. I’m 6 feet tall and need an inseam between 34 and 37 inches, depending on what shoes I’m wearing with the jeans. (Yes, I wear heels.)
      3. I have an hourglass shape, so I need jeans that are roomy in the butt, hips, and thighs, but taper in at the waist.

Essentially I just want jeans that fit my shape — they have to be long enough and shouldn’t require constant tugging up. My best bet so far has been Old Navy’s jeans in The Flirt.

I need jeans that don’t gap or sag, and aren’t so wide-legged that I’m tripping. Why is it that manufacturers think that if we have hips we want wide/bell legs?

From these picks it looks like I might be heading to Old Navy soon to check out their jeans.

I only have 3 pairs of jeans because it is so hard to find a pair that fits my flat pancake butt. Out of the 3 pairs I have 2 that I absolutely love. They are both from the A.N.A collection from JC Penney. Both pairs were just under $20. I am all about inexpensive. I bought the skinny jeans first and wore them all of the time. I never thought I could pull of skinny jeans with my thick calves, stumpy legs and no butt. but for some reason these just worked. I then went back to get another pair a few months later and found a flared jean. They do have some stretch in them and do lose their shape after wearing them for 3 straight days but I don’t care. My husband told me that my ass looked good in them.

I think for curvy girls (like me, duh) a dark wash bootcut is the most flattering (skinny and jeggings for 90% of us are awful). Fashion Bug has a $20 one I like right now. My favorite jeans when I was in my 20′s was Calvin Klein. They fit awesome in a size smaller. What could make women happier than magically making them a size smaller?!?

Ugh. I have such a love/hate relationship with jeans. I love to wear them but it is so hard to find a pair that fits my shape. I usually have the best luck with Gap or Lucky. I have butt for days and a (formerly) tiny waist. Whenever I find a pair that fits my booty (and thighs) it is usually butt crack central – sometimes even before I sit down. If I see a one inch zipper I know without even trying the jeans on that they are not for me! I look for ample room in the butt and thighs and a taper at the waist, a jean that sits on the hips -not 3 inches below!- and a nice flair at the bottom so I don’t look like an upside down bowling pin.

Love the photos you ladies posted. You all look fabulous! And I’m with you Brittany – I do NOT like stretch in my jeans. Yeah, they’re comfortable, but spandex does absolutely NOTHING to help me hold it all in!

As hard as I try to have more then one pair of jeans at a time, it never works. I always end up having one pair that I just wear over and over until they are totally worn out (upper thigh area ALWAYS goes first). The one requirement that I have is they absolutely must be flared. I carry all of my weight in my calves (I’m only very slightly exaggerating) and therefore anything that isn’t a flare doesn’t fit. Boot cut can’t pass and straight leg jeans are a pipe dream. Other then that I like a darker wash and a slightly distressed look but that is a bonus after finding something with a flare.

Also important? They don’t slide down or sag off my butt, they’re a dark wash that doesn’t fade after the first wash (curse you, Lane Bryant jeans!), and they come in petite!

I carry most of my weight in my tummy, so it’s hard to find a pair of jeans that will go around my tummy and not be super baggy around everywhere else.

The best jeans I ever had were my maternity jeans! But they are to big now. Argh!

Maybe I should just look for a smaller pair of Maternity jeans?

this is my problem, too. The pair I have are a medium rise, just enough to stay over my belly and not reveal crack (which is always fun) in a smaller size to fit my thin legs. I will admit to wearing my maternity ones for longer than I should have.

I LOVE my Gap Long and Lean jeans. Except for the part where they are too long, even in “ankle” length.

I recently discovered that my other favorites – Maurice’s Taylor Bootcut- come in extra short. So I now own a pair of those as well.

What I love in jeans are this: something that will fit my waist and hips and my height. I’m petite, 5’0″, so even a SHORT in jeans is too long sometimes and then if it does fit then it doesn’t fit my hips or it does but there’s a gap at my waist. I did find some jeans at American Eagle but they stopped producing PETITE jeans so I am hanging on for dear life to the ones I do have……even if they barely fit:) Ha-ha!

I have to go back to work when my 12 weeks of maternity leave are up, and I found a pair of jeans at Target, on sale for 15 bucks. I love them because they are the first thing that doesn’t have an elastic waist that I’ve worn since I got pregnant. They fit me a little snug, but they fit, and they make me feel human again, not like a blimp. They make me want to work to get back in to collection of other jeans I own. My favorite “I didn’t just have a baby” jeans are Long & Lean jeans from Gap. I also have Essential Fit jeans (they don’t make that fit any more), that I kept from the last time I lost baby weight in a larger size. Those are the first pair I can’t wait to fit back in to.

I love the shape (and the price) of all the Old Navy jeans, but I have a tiny issue with them. It seems every time I hit up the ON for some jeans, all I can find have a white pinstripe from the knee down to the hem. Has anyone else run into this? What the frick? It’s weird, especially on darker washes.

I need a pair that is slim/straight-legged/possibly skinny. Back pockets to enhance what little butt I do have. With a mid- to low-rise. I have some Old Navy jeans and Levi’s that I love. Been hearing good things about Gap jeans — must check them out.

It’s hard to find jeans that I feel good in because I’m pear shaped, seriously, I’m a pear with legs. I could be in the fruit of the loom commercials! I like dark wash since it seems slimming (could just be wishful thinking) but it also can be dressed up or down. I found a couple of pairs of Jones New York jeans on clearance for $9 each (originally $59)!! They have just enough stretch to not sag and make me look like MC Hammer, and the demin is so soft they feel like pajama pants. I wanted to wear them out of the fitting room and never take them off! But I figured I should wash them first so I wouldn’t be a pear with blue dyed legs!

They saved me from saggy butt syndrome…not attractive. A very kind sales person also gave me the tip to buy a size smaller than usual, as they will give a little, and man was she right! I’d love to try a few new styles, maybe even a skinny jean if I feel up to it – you girls look lovely in your jeans!

I’m a huge fan of the Old Navy Dreamer jeans too. They fit perfectly: a little bit of stretch, not super low, and come in a dark wash. I also love that they are cheap!!! My main thing I look for in jeans, other than the fit, is a dark wash. I HATE all those weird specialty washes where the front is lighter, or random faded spots. I think a dark jean looks so much better on EVERYONE.

I can only buy jeans at Old Navy. I get the Divas, but I have to find talls and they are hard to find. I like the low cut because I can say I wear a smaller size if they don’t have to go over my belly. I, unfortunately, suffer from “wall-butt disease.” I have NO ass and NO hips. Even my brothers got hips. Even at 240 pounds, I had nothing. I look like a boy from the back. At least the Divas (boot-cut so they add a little flare) let me pretend that I have hips.

I ask a lot of my jeans. A LOT.
They need to be high enough to help me suck in my stomach.
They need to not be too long, but still long enough that I could wear them with flats and heels.
I need them to be of thicker material so they don’t wear out from the rubbing between my thighs.
And I don’t want to have to keep pulling them up all.the.time.

Oh and they also need to make my ass look like a peach. Ya. I said it. Like a peach. ….Like I said, I ask a lot out of my jeans. :-)

I am SUPER picky about pocket placement and length on my jeans! If the pockets are too high, they give you a big butt look. If they are too low, they make it look like you have a flat or saggy butt! I also need a “Tall” size because I am 5’8″ and most “Regular” jeans are about 4″ too short!:( I found an awesome pair of Sonoma-Life & Style jeans for $10 on a clearance rack at Kohl’s! They are my fave and meet all of my requirements!!;) They even have a bit of stretch to them, so they are comfy and don’t squeeze or suffocate me! Thanks, ladies!:)

I love a jean that doesn’t make my FUPA the main attraction for everyone’s viewing pleasure.

Levi’s has been my top jean of choice for the past three years. Up until recently the Skinny Jean in a size 20 was my favorite jean to wear. Even though I’m a big girl the Levi’s skinny jean did wonders for my pear shaped, short body. But weight gain and me refusing to buy more clothes I’ve switched to the Levi’s boyfriend jean I owned in the same size. Since the waist sits lower on the boyfriend jean I didn’t have to lose weight to get into these bad boys – I just needed to move the belt notch – Praise Jeebus!!!

There are many other jeans in this post that I’ve tried and do enjoy. However, I end up spending more money tailoring the jean than on the price of the jean. So me and Levi’s Plus have will remain besties and one day I’ll be able get back into those Levi Skinny Jeans I had to put away because of the 16 pounds I’ve gained.

      Great contest, great post.

I am 44 years old, so fit and comfort are more important than cuteness or even showing off my butt…although they are always great to find. My favorites are the “Right Fit” jeans from Catherine’s and Lane Bryant. They come in Curvy (me!), Moderately Curvy, and Straight. They start at a 14 and go all the way to 34. I love a little bit of stretch in a jean and a waist that doesn’t gap. I have curvy hips, but a slimmer waist, and I constantly have trouble with finding the right fit. I also like a straighter leg that’s not too wide, and get frustrated sometimes by the thigh clinging boot cut styles. All in all, I usually hate shopping for jeans. Possibly even more than shopping for a swimming suit, if you can believe it. Thanks for the great tips! But, for me jeans must make the booty look good, sit just barely under the bellybutton, have some stretch to them, be a dark wash, be bootcut, not give muffin top, but not show crack when you sit, the list goes on.. haha, maybe that’s why I haven’t found the dream jean yet. But I’d love the chance to get some new ones :)

An intern in my office recently told me that she thought I was “hiding my assets” in jeans that were just too baggy. Oh, the shame!! So I went out shopping last weekend, and every time I looked in the dressing room mirror, I had her advice in mind, and ultimately walked out of the store with a pair of jeans that actually showed all my curves off. Imagine! I thought it was impossible at my size, and am so happy find out that our intern was right. Out of the mouths of babes :-)

I am forever searching for good jeans and I’m never satisfied. I must buy 3 pairs a month… I have mountains of ill fitting jeans in my closet…. I want jeans that are “regular” rise… I don’t want muffin top spilling over the waistband… And I’m only 5’2″. But I like to wear my Jeans long because it elongates me (or so I think). Every brand and every style fits differently…. No clue what Size I am. I like a straight leg or boot cut. The “short” or “ankle” length jeans are always an inch too short. And “regular” length are about 8 inches too long… I’m tired of paying $$ to have jeans hemmed…. Thx for writing this Article… I think I’m gonna try for a good ol’ fashioned pair of Levi’s!
