Pandora Stations For Kids That Won’t Drive You Crazy

Listening to music is a favorite activity in our house. We listen to my husband singing songs he has written and playing his guitar. At night my son drifts off to sleep to CDs playing from the small boom box perched on a bookshelf in his room. And for hours during the week we have Pandora radio playing in the background of our home life.

We jump from genre to genre throughout the day, but more often than not we are listening to a children’s station. Now before you envision days filled with Wheels on the Bus and the Barney theme song, hear me out. There are stations out there catering to young ears that won’t drive you crazy at the sound of the first note.

The Children’s Indie Radio station is a great example. With artists like Cake, They Might Be Giants, and Ziggy Marley crooning kid friendly tunes you might find yourself dancing and singing along—even without the kids at home.

I love the children’s stuff that They Might Be Giants have written. I’m pretty sure I can sing every song on the Here Come the 123s cd. The They Might Be Giants (Children’s) station plays tracks from that disc, They Might Be Giants’ Here Come The ABCs and Here Comes Science, along other quirky tunes by various artists. Not only are they catchy but they’re educational. That makes it a parenting win, right?

If you are looking for kid-friendly versions of hit songs check out the Kidz Bop Kids Radio station. Kidz Bop has a decade worth of discs with tracks that you will belt out with your little ones. The Phineas and Ferb station is another favorite. Although it does make me wonder, “Where’s Perry?”. Of course, as a ’70s baby, I cannot leave the Muppets station off this list—after all, it was a huge part my childhood.

Go ahead, tune into one of these kid’s stations, crank it up and boogie down dance party style in your living room.

You’ll be glad you did. Music is good for the soul—no matter your age.

Thank you for this! I want to expose my child to all kinds of music, but I’m getting sick of the same old, same old. I also want to avoid “The Wheels on the Bus”, if at all possible. This is perfect!

Children’s Indie and Kidz Bop are favorites around here. I will be adding Phineas & Ferb to our list. :) I never even thought of the Muppets, guess we will have some new music to jam to around here.

Thank you! My brother and sister-in-law are going to have their first baby in a couple of months and I think this will be great (hopefully unique) gift!

I’ll have to load some of these on my daughter’s computer so she can listen to them at home.

I’m SO HAPPY you included the Muppets station!!! :) that one is a fav on *cough* my…my daughters station yeah that’s it ;)

Also for some of the older kids you can totally block explicit content! Apparently doing this comes as a shock to most people along with “kid proofing” itouches.

Pandora is on almost all day at my house and is my “radio” in the car since mine no longer works.

How do you block the explicit content? My 7 year old loves so many different types of music but the all of the sudden some song comes on and we are like oh boy this is not the radio version. Thank you.

up in the right hand corner you should see the email addy your pandora account is listed with, click that and go to settings and you’ll see “allow explicit content” area and click on “no”. i technically have two Pandora accounts so my music doesn’t mix with hers so one is under my gmail account which is her music that won’t allow explicit content and mine is under my hotmail account which will allow. it filters explicit curse words, but song that still have reference to sex still plays but we skip those and thumbs them down. hope this helps! :)
